New Study Beginning Wednesday, January 6th at 6 pm

Christians know what Jesus Christ has done—but who is he? What is his deepest heart for his people, weary and faltering on their journey toward heaven? Jesus said he is “gentle and lowly in heart.” We will discuss two chapters in the award-winning book Gentle and Lowly by Dane Ortlund each week, opening up a neglected yet central truth about who Jesus is for sinners and sufferers today. See Pastor Stephanie for a copy of the book if you would like to be in the study.

T H A N K   Y O U

Karen and I wish to express our appreciation to the congregation for the Love Gift this Christmas. We are grateful for your generosity and thoughtfulness. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Dwight & Karen

“Thank you to the Alert church family for the very generous Christmas

love gift.  It is a pleasure and honor to be a part of worship here, and although the gift is never expected, it is very much appreciated.  Thank you! LuAnn”

Thanks to all of you so very much for the Christmas gifts and cards, as well as for the Christmas bonus. How generous of you all! It means the world that you were thinking of me. I wish you many blessings in this New Year. – Pastor Stephanie

Thank you for your support.  This past Christmas, the Community Food Basket was able to give 25 Food Baskets and 55 children were adopted through the Adopt-A-Family Christmas ministry.  One way you can support the Community Food Basket is with a Dollar General gift card since we purchase most of our food and paper items from Dollar General in Riley.

Sit With Jesus- A Virtual Event

Covenant Women: Join us as we sit at the feet of Jesus during the often-busy holiday season. Grab a cup of tea or hot chocolate as we read the birth story of Jesus and have a brief discussion to orient our hearts to our great Redeemer and Friend. Monday, December 21st from 7pm – 8pm. Zoom link is available on the church’s website (check under “Resources” then “Events” or on our Facebook page)

Julotta

Julotta is a special tradition at Alert that we love to celebrate on Christmas morning. We gather at 6:00 a.m. in the sanctuary for a candlelit service of Christmas carols, special numbers, reading of the Christmas story, and a monologue portraying one of the characters from the Christmas story. If you would like to bring a special number for Julotta, please let Pastor Dwight know what you would like to do. Vocal and instrumental numbers are welcome.

Update from the Northern Riley County Food Pantry

The Northern Riley County Food Pantry received the following thank you which I wanted to share as it was an encouragement for this ministry.  This thank you note was signed by several individuals.   “Thank you so much, to all the wonderful volunteers, that help those of us in need with such compassion, kindness, and dignity.”

  • If you know of families with children under the age of 18 years, who might be financially suffering especially during this COVID time, there is still time to sign up to participate in the Adopt-A-Family program.  Last day to sign up to participate is Monday, December 7th.   Questions?  Contact Karen Rundquist at karen.rundquist@gmail.com.      (At this time, we have more individuals wanting to Adopt-A-Family than we have families to adopt.)
  • Another way you can support the Food Pantry is by donating a Dollar General gift card.  The Food Pantry purchases almost all their food and laundry needs at the Riley Dollar General.
  • Food Donations for the Christmas Baskets are being accepted through December 15th.  Donations may be put in the lime green tote located in the coat rack area or the basket located at the south Fellowship Hall entrance.    Suggestions are:  Whole Corn, Pork and Beans, Baked Beans, Red Jello, Yams (canned), Fruit Cocktail, Cake Mixes, Mashed Potatoes (boxed), Pie Filling either Apple or Cherry, Evaporated Milk, Egg Noodles, Cream of Chicken soup, Cream of Mushroom soup.

Christmas Caroling

This year we will be changing up our approach to Caroling. Instead of meeting at the church, we will meet at three separate locations.

  • Randolph Cemetery to go to Ken and Bonnie Hanson, Marion & Deona Brenner, Margie Wohler, and Marguerite Johnson.
  • Parking lot across from Veryl Rundquist in Clay Center, then go to Jon and Evelyn Larson, and Country Living Long Term Care Facility to sing outside of Betty Sylvester’s room and other rooms.
  • Leonardville Nursing Home where we will stand outside of Myron Lund and Robert Dreith’s room and other rooms and sing since we cannot enter the facility.

We will not be entering anyone’s house this year. Rather we will sing from the lawn.  And if you would like to join us for pizza at Alert afterward, we will be taking a headcount at each location at the start of caroling.
