Cupcake Celebration

Please join us in the old sanctuary following worship service today for some refreshments to celebrate the two new babies that have recently joined our church family, Hank Houser, son to Terry & Amanda Houser and

Owen Lippert, son of Justin & Brandi Lippert.

 

Are you missing?

In the former sanctuary, there is a table that contains various items which have been left at the church over the past 5 years. These items might have been left from a potluck, funeral dinner, food donation, etc. (They need to make their way back to their home.) After Monday, September 3^rd, these items will no longer be available. If you have any questions, please contact Karen Rundquist and have a great Fall!

 

Youth Pastor

Zachary Kurt has accepted our call to serve as our youth/worship pastor. He plans to begin serving with us in a couple of weeks, so pray has Zachary makes this transition and moves to KS.

 

Men’s Encounter

Men’s Encounter is a time for us men to get away and encounter God, perhaps like never before; a time to consider, give thought to our lives, and discover solutions to the unique challenges facing men.

Who would you like to provide solutions for you?  Who better than God?

It is important to take the time to step away and gain perspective.  Whether you think you have it all figured out or not, you will benefit from attending and you will come home with no regrets. From the time you leave until the time you return, you will have nothing to worry about; all meals, transportation and lodging is included.  September 7-9, 2018, with multiple launch points. Registration can be done at encounterthecross.com and our church will cover half the registration fee for anyone going.  If you are interested but have questions, please visit with Andy Sedlacek, Josh Wendland or Sam Linhardt.

 

Covenant Women! Our next Coffee and Conversation, where we talk about things that matter, is coming up. The topic: Breaking the Cycle of Shame. The struggles we all have being honest with ourselves and with others can lead to shame. And it’s far more common than we realize. So, let’s talk about it – where shame comes from, what it means, and how to break the cycle. Save the date – Saturday, September 8^th from 9am – 11am here at the church with a light breakfast and of course, coffee.

Our families keep getting blessed with babies, and we’d love to bless them back. Let’s shower the Housers (Pampers, please) and the Lipperts with diapers for baby Hank and baby Owen. You can bring them to the church and put them by the mailboxes – and make sure to label them, too!

Just a couple of ideas as you’re out shopping:

• August is school supplies: Pick up extra crayons, pencils, note pads, etc.
• September is games month: travel size puzzles, cards, etc.

We will begin putting shoeboxes together end of September and early October. If you have items purchased, please bring them to the church so we can take inventory of what is still needed.

We are planning a service of baptism next Sunday, August 26 for those who believe that God is leading them to enter the waters of baptism.  So, if you would like to be baptized, please let Pastor Dwight know of your desire.

Congratulations to Robbie and Emily Beyers on the birth of Kaylee Louise on Aug. 4^th – 8lbs. 7oz. and 20.5” long. And also to Justin and Brandi Lippert on the birth of their son Owen on July 27^th – 8lbs and 21” long.

 

Sunday School and Children’s Church Teacher Appreciation! We will celebrate all the teachers do for our church on Sunday, August 19^th after Sunday School. Fork in the Road is catering a meal here for us and we have fun activities planned. We are so thankful for our volunteers – and make sure to plan on coming with your family. Prayer

Please pray for our Mexico Mission Team who left Friday for Nicolas Romero, Mexico and will return on Saturday, August 4^th. Our team will be helping their VBS with an expected attendance of 130. The members of the team are: Kathy, Grace, Rosie, and Rose Linhardt, Bodie, Ashtyn, and Brett Kulp, and Pastor Dwight.

 

SCHOOLAPALOOZA is coming up! Please stop by the table in the foyer and consider how you might help. This wonderful community outreach to families is a big part of our mission as a church and we would love your help to pull it off! We need more carnival games in particular. The event is August 1 from

5pm – 7pm, working around pre-fair events. There are many ways to participate, so please check it out.

 

Leonardville Hullabaloo is Saturday, August 11th.  We need your help to hand out water bottles in the parade and we would also like to “borrow” your ice chest to keep the water bottles cold.  Please leave your ice chest in the church kitchen before Friday, August 10th.  The parade begins at 3:30 and we will meet after 3 p.m. around the City Park area.  Your help is needed to hand out the 850 water bottles!!  

Sunday School Promotion Sunday will be on Sunday, August 19. Be on the lookout for more information on some fun things the Christian Education Board has planned for that day.

Special Meeting

We will hold a special congregational meeting next Sunday after the Worship service to vote on whether to extend a call to Zachary Kurt as Alert’s youth/worship pastor.

 

Thank You

We want to thank everyone for sharing our passion for the road race. So many of you brought food for the breakfast, and that is HUGE!  The runners love it, and they spend time visiting together after the race because of the food!  The current trend at races is not to have an awards ceremony.  Runners just get a medal as they finish, then they leave. We love the chance the breakfast and awards gives people to get to know each other just a little bit and to recognize great performances.  Please thank the sponsors listed on the back of the race t-shirts and let them know how much you appreciate their support! This year’s race cleared just over $2,000.00 after expenses.  Thank you to those who prayed for the runners, for the race, for our sanity (haha!)  Thanks to everyone who came out and ran a water stop, registered runners, helped at the finish line, and rigged things up so we had music outside!  Also, thank you for the gift cards!   This was such a sweet surprise!  We will certainly enjoy them.  One more request:  if you are going to be near Maury’s Restaurant soon, please make a PIE DATE with Pastor Dwight.  He won all the pies in the Faster Pastor Mile, and he is going to need some help! –Marc & Teresa
