“The Parables: Understanding what Jesus Meant”

Why are we so drawn to stories? And why did Jesus use them so often?

Some sections of the Bible give us grand theology. Some move us to grateful responses to God. But the parables break through mere words and make us ask whether there has indeed been any real difference in our lives.

Today we’ll start a new adult class on the stories Jesus used to teach. Join us in the old sanctuary!

Call to Fasting and Prayer

As we look ahead to 2020, our leadership has set a goal of nurturing a culture of prayer at Alert. We want to encourage our congregation to join us in committing to pray and fast for a day from time to time in 2020. We would like to fill the calendar with volunteers who are willing to participate.  A sign-up sheet with the first three months will be available today for volunteers to sign up for a day to fast and pray.

Babysitting Night

Need a night out or to get some things done around the house without kids?  Let the mission team help you out!  On Saturday, January 18^th from 5-9:30 p.m. the mission team will be offering childcare as a fundraiser.  There will be lots of fun activities planned to keep the kiddos busy.  It was a fun night the last time and they are hoping to get more kids to join in this time! Please let Rose Linhardt know if you plan to bring your kids by Wednesday, January 15 so they can plan accordingly. 

Covenant Women Bible Study

Scripture answers some of the most fundamental questions we have, such as: Who are we?  Where do we belong?  How do we live included in Christ? Join us on Tuesday night for an in-depth study in Galatians and Ephesians examining these passionate questions we have in our heart. We will meet at the VFW in Randolph from 6:30 to 8pm. This study is open to all women, so please invite your friends!

Trail Life Troop 0618 Pancake Feed

Our local Trail Life Troop will be having a pancake feed, on Saturday, January 11^th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. here at church.  Free will donation. Please come out and support our local troop.

College Student Care Packages

This year we will be gathering gift cards or monetary donations to welcome them back from winter break. We have eight young adults we would like to bless. If you feel led to give in this way, please give any donations to Pastor Dwight at your earliest convenience.

Please be reminded that if you are responsible for submitting an annual report, it is time to be working on those. You can leave your reports in the church office. Thank you.

Ring in the New Year with us!  Join us for a fun night of celebrating what the Lord has done for us in 2019 and what he holds for us in 2020. See you all New Year’s Eve, 6:30 p.m., fellowship room downstairs.  Please bring a finger food and whatever games you may want to play.  Paper products and drinks will be provided!

Victory Village

The director was thrilled with the boxes for Victory Village! Thank you to everyone who put together a box. Please remember to be in prayer for the girls throughout the year to the end of May.  Also, there will be a banquet February 13th to celebrate Victory Village’s 50th year in 2020 if anybody wants to attend. The address to write the girls letters: Victory Village, PO Box 20068 Hutchinson, Kansas 67504 and write the girl’s name in care of. Make sure to put Alert Covenant Church underneath your name in the return address line because they do have to screen the girls mail.

Christmas Caroling

For the Christmas Caroling we will divide the participants into two groups. One group will drive to Clay Center to carol at the homes of some of our members and then at the Nursing Home facilities, and the second group will make some stops at homes, Leonardville Nursing Home and Autumn Hills.

Church in Ministry

With the end of the year fast approaching, Randi would like to get a jump start on lists for our church in ministry.  The lists include: Greeters, Nursery, Scripture reading, children’s sermon & children’s church, candle lighters, and ushers. In the foyer, you can find a short form to fill out to update your contact information and indicate what lists you would like to be on.

Christmas Caroling

Our annual night of caroling is coming up on December 8th. We’ll visit several people in Clay Center, the Leonardville nursing home, and many around the area of the church, then have dinner in Riley at Gambino’s. We’d love to bless those we visit with cookies, so please bring a dozen by that Sunday morning so we can get them packed up! 

Christmas Craft

Sunday afternoon, December 8^th at 3pm we’ll be making crafts with the kids before we go caroling. Join us for this fun time, sharing Christmas joy with others. 

Christmas Program

All kids from 1^st thru 6^th grade who can be in the Christmas program on December 15^th will be dismissed after the Children’s Sermon for practice today.  

Cookie Exchange

Join us for our annual cookie exchange! Saturday, December 7th at 9:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Please bring: 6 dozen cookies or candy (all the same recipe), a copy of the recipe, a container for the cookies you will take home, and a brunch food or appetizer. 6 of your cookies will go to the Manhattan Emergency Shelter! Bibles

Study Bibles are available for those who do not have a Bible of their own. You may pick one up at the Welcome Center. The Bibles are provided as a gift to you.
